ITS Slovakia

The motion and its quality is one of the basic elements of living standard review. The quality of living standard of people will depend from real possibility of giving daily needs satisfaction, in which belongs the level of accessibility of the work, school, shops, accessibility of social welfare and leisure. At the beginning of the 21st century our society could not evade of development trends of information society, which has an immense influence on traffic/transport process. The each „step“ of the live of our human being depends from this quality of the service.

Slovakia confronts too many transport and traffic problems, therefore there is a need to solve the follows realms:

• To improve the traffic safety and protection of all users,
• To precede the creation of traffic congestions, which increase the travel costs and spin out the travel time,
• To decrease the degradation of the public transport,
• To decrease the negative influence on environment,
• To improve the competitiveness and capacity of goods transport and logistics,
• To provide the citizens of Slovakia to keep the access to safe and accessible transport.

The essential requirement of launching of advanced applications is to use new technologies on present solution of traffic problems. ITS are ingenious multimodal tools, which integrate progressive technologies and use them in transport with the aim of developing solution for better quality of life of all Slovakian citizens. Improvement of living conditions of citizens, increasing the time saving and finance in economical activities of society and better environment is based by supporting of ITS applications.

Transport in Slovakia is based on limited dependence of geographical and economical structure of the state, where dominates the use of road transport. This reality will further develop the transport requirements of the country. Last decades in our development of society, spoting on transport, unambiguously overstep all meantime valid and forecasted trends. Enormous increasing of personal traffic, increasing of accidents attending by increasing of healthy quality and fatalities of people, significant contamination of atmosphere from road transport, growth of congestions in agglomerations, collapse of railway transport, decreasing of public transport performances, these are the related effects of our society. The costs on maintenance and reconstruction of complete road network increase enormously and they are not covered by base requirements. The new construction of motorways and speedways, which is essential, however it is not sufficient. Gradually it runs to complete deterioration of road infrastructure. Slovakia does not evade of expansivity of road traffic and demand of private using of cars and haulage performances on road network. The success is possible to reach of fusing professionals in traffic/transport fields of activityy. The question: why Intelligent Transport Systems in Slovakia, is legitimate. Therefore at the beginning of 2001 was establish profession oriented association, which has to given its goals and rules of activities (Statutes of ITS Slovakia Association – only in Slovak).
